Gordon Willis “the prince of darkness”, made an art of under exposure (of lighting) in film-making.. the use of overhead lighting, to emphasize one person throughout a movie.. some of his scenes were deliberate and planned and some were unintentional.. he used the colour yellow (or a brassy type colour) throughout his movies which then influenced period films thereafter.
